If a tenant holding a head lease wishes to allocate the lease they hold to a third party for PART of the term, this can be done via a sub-lease.


Sub-leases allow the third party to occupy the premises for a time comprising part of the term of the original lease, and on expiry the property reverts to the original tenant (the owner of the head lease) until the original lease expires. Some leases may prevent or restrict subletting, so it is important to take advice if you are considering subletting your premises.
