As I was drafting a Will for a client an email popped up in my inbox telling me that the spouse statutory legacy increases to £270,000 from next month. I doubt that this means much to anyone, other than Wills and Probate practitioners.
It prompted me into writing this.
I am often asked “Should I make a Will?”
Contrary to what you may read, not having a Will might make little difference for some families. In the case of other families dying without a Will can leave a dogs dinner of a mess and years of expensive litigation. Do you want to take the risk?
So, come and ask me “What will happen if I don’t make a Will?”
I offer a free initial appointment. No obligation. I will be happy to explain the spouse statutory legacy.
